Caution on Choosing Long Lasting Chemicals Treatments for Termites:

Termite treatments should be based on a sound environmental decision.

This decision should cover a range of subjects:

Can you guarantee the soil the termitacide is put into is going to be undisturbed for 10 years?
You have no plans for building alterations that will disturb or interfere with the treated area and therefore render the treatment useless?
Are you treating every aspect of the building, or is there a likelihood of further treatment that may be needed to other areas? E.g. internal concrete areas, cavity walls, retaining walls etc.
Do you know what will be the future use of the treated area e.g vegetable patches, fish ponds near by, or other adverse situation?
Will you own the property in 10 years?

If your answer is no to any of the above questions, it should also be no to the question on whether you apply the termite barrier at a higher concentrate for the longer life span. It would be more profitable for you to apply the chemical barrier at the lower concentrate. Remember if the soil is disturbed then the barrier is broken and will need to be reapplied.

Termite treatments should not be approached as a once off thing to do, and vigilance is of the up most importance even after a treatment has been applied.

Even though you may choose to have a long-term barrier put down, it will still be necessary to have an annual inspection carried out as a minimum.
